I recently wrote a story for NYC Indymedia's Indypendent newspaper/website about the FSRN funding crisis. You can read it here.
So far, I have received a few comments on the story and comments made by my sources.
One person told me that several people at KPFA thought the report came across as an advocacy piece. My response is that I wrote it from the perspective of an FSRN reporter and steering committee member who was reporting for an audience that supports grassroots news. I could have made an effort to get comment from Pacifica, beyond the letter, but was focusing on a short update, not an in depth analysis.
Another person told me that some at Pacifica thought my numbers were wrong. The numbers I cited came from the letter and from Pacifica's tax forms submitted in 2006 (no data is available from 2007, and 2006 was submitted late so perhaps 2007 will be as well). If they were referring to the accounting that Aaron Glantz implied Pacifica was doing with the foundation's budget - that it was spending more on lawsuits and settlements than on news - then i welcome comments and corrections.
