Efforts Underway to Register Hip Hop Generation

In an effort to increase participation on election day, a number of Get out the Vote efforts are under way to increase participation among those who participate the least. Rock the Vote to get youth to register, a 24 state voter registration drive focused on unmarried women, and Respect my Vote, an effort to register young people ages 18 - 29 with out a college education are some examples.  The Respect my Vote drive is an initiative with rapper T.I. and hip hop activists.  FSRN's Karen Miller spoke with Reverend Lenox Yearwood, head of the Hip Hop Caucus. Yearwood launched Vote or Die in 2004. They speak about this year's campaign.

INTERVIEW 2

This year, the Greens nominated organizer and hip-hop activist Rosa Clemente as their Vice-Presidential pick. Clemente spoke with KPFA's Davey D at the Green Party convention in Chicago about her selection and about trying to organize those who have been disenfranchised from the political process.
